Tribal warfare. Economic oppression. Political corruption. The problems that plague Kenya are overwhelming but in the midst of great suffering, there is great hope. Live life with and serve people devastated by poverty but brimming with strength, fortitude and joy. Join us in Kenya as we carry water on our backs, build greenhouses, chase zebras and give our lives away for others.
Relationships change everything. Uhuru will take you into resettlement villages and place you with a host family, during the day, who has lived through tribal warfare. Hear their stories. Walk miles to chop firewood with their machete. Work their shambas (farms). Drink their chai. See life from their perspective.
Forget Richard Simmons; we’re workin’ out Kenya style. Get ready to swing a jimbe (hoe) and wake up sore. Whether it’s digging a pipeline or borehole, building a home, cleaning a school or constructing a chicken farm, you’re sure to leave in awe that elderly Kenyan women are stronger than you.
Uhuru doesn’t try to do everything. For that reason we want to expose you to other organizations and ministries that address different social and physical issues. You will spend time with adults suffering from HIV/AIDS, and women raising children with disabilities as well as refugees and orphans.
Want to camp in the wild? Want to cook dinner over a bonfire while gawking at sky filled with more stars than you’ve ever seen? Or if you just want to be king, then you’ll love safari. We will take two days to unwind and search for lions and other wild animals amidst the beautiful Kenyan landscape.
Shopping for gifts at Masaai market, spending time with students at Uhuru Academy, climbing a volcano and chasing kids around.
