Our student scholarship program provides merit-based scholarships to high achieving secondary school students from our partner communities. While studying at our school, students not only receive an outstanding education, but also participate in our discipleship program through which they receive counseling, encouragement and life skills to assure they are well-rounded, capable people after school.

Margaret Waithera :

Margaret Waithera

Margaret is 17 years old and is a Form 2 student at Uhuru Academy. She loves to write stories and read them to her class. She is very talented at sports, especially volleyball and soccer. She has blossomed since joining Uhuru Academy last year. She enjoys teaching her family back home about what she learns at school about democracy and leadership. She lives with her parents and siblings in the Rift Valley. Sponsor Margaret

Jane Thungu :

Jane Thungu

Jane is 16 and is a Form 1 student. She lives with her parents in Maai Mahiu village.  She is the first born of six with four brothers and one sister.  Her favorite subject is Math and her goal is to become a nurse so that she can help people who are sick and support her parents.  Her favorite part of Uhuru Academy is that she feels that the quality of education she receives is better than her former schools. Ann Njeri :

Ann Njeri

Ann is 14 and is a Form 1 student. She lives with her Aunt in Limuru.  She has two older sisters and one younger brother.  Her favorite subject is Chemistry and she hopes to one day be a neurosurgeon. Her mother passed away last year and it has been hard for her to focus on her studies but she is so grateful for the opportunity to be at Uhuru Academy and is working hard to achieve her goals. Josephine Mbeti :

Josephine Mbeti

Josephine is 17 years old and is a Form 2 student at Uhuru Academy. She is a talkative, driven young woman who wants to be a leader in local government when she grows up. Her father passed away when she was young and her mother became very ill with a heart condition shortly thereafter. She now lives in Jikaze IDP camp with her guardian. Jane is 15 and is a Form 1 student. She lives with both of her parents in Naivasha. Mercyline is 17 and is a Form 2 student.
